New Programmes in Argentina, China and the USA

- Buenos Aires, New York, Beijing - The Frankfurt Book Fair (10 - 14 October 2012) is continuing to expand its conference and professional development programme under the umbrella of the Frankfurt Academy - the Mind Network. Starting this year, the Frankfurt Academy will offer its trend shows, training programmes, workshops and professional trips throughout the year and around the world.
“In addition to conveying the latest trends and practical knowledge, we at the Frankfurt Academy are also focused on expanding our international network of experts. That’s why it’s very important for us to be active throughout the year and around the world”, said Holger Volland, VP Media Industries, at the Frankfurt Book Fair. In cooperation with renowned partners, projects like the successful Tools of Change for Publishing (TOC) and StoryDrive conferences will premiere in Argentina and in China respectively. One entirely new addition to the Frankfurt Academy is the children’s book conference “What Makes a Children’s Book Great?“ in New York, presented by Publishing Perspectives and sponsored by the celebrated publishing house Scholastic Inc.
The Frankfurt Academy will cover all facets of the publishing and media business with a focus on “Innovation & Technology”, “Markets & Trends”, “Rights & Licensing” and “New Business Models”.
The following projects are currently in the works:
• TOC Latin America will celebrate its premiere on 20 April at the book fair in Buenos Aires. The conference will be organised by the Frankfurt Academy in cooperation with O’Reilly Media and the Feria del Libro de Buenos Aires.
• The children’s book conference “What Makes a Children’s Book Great?” will take place in the run-up to Book Expo America (4 to 7 June 2012) in New York.
• As part of the China International Fair for Trade in Services (IFTIS) scheduled for 28 and 29 May 2012 in Beijing, the all-media platform StoryDrive will bring together international experts from the fields of publishing, games and film.
• From 28 to 31 May, the Frankfurt Academy will present “Exclusive Games”, a professional trip for representatives of the international media and game industries. The objective of the trip is to introduce participants to the Chinese game and media markets and to establish new business contacts.
Additional publishing trips and publishers’ training events are in the pipeline.
“The international publishing and media markets feature a variety of focus areas. While both the film business and transmedia and crossmedia networking are quite advanced in the USA, the concept of ‘mobile storytelling’ is very developed in the Asian markets. We develop our programme accordingly and in a way that is individualised and oriented toward the needs of our audience. The Frankfurt Academy is intended to serve as a platform for bringing together a variety of trends - and launching new trends as a result”, explained Holger Volland.
